WELCOME

One of the most important things about being a martial artist is to be creative and explore your knowledge. Studio Martial Arts is founded on creativity, because of how important it is as a practitioner of martial arts (Wing Tsun, Wing Chun, Krav Maga, Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai, Karate, etc.). Wing Tsun and martial arts classes have evolved because of exploration and solving problems.

Creativity is an important part of every person and should be nourished when it comes to every activity. The important thing is to have an understanding before being too creative. Follow your Sifu’s (Teacher’s) instructions first and get a grasp of what is trying to be accomplished. To have a healthy balance, is following from experience and knowledge before blindly making up new ideas just because.

In Wing Tsun, we follow the concepts, principles, and common sense in order to really adjust accordingly. Wing Tsun has a principle matrix which helps us know what we are trying to achieve to defend ourselves. Self Defense involves asking questions and using knowledge to adapt to what is being used against you to find the very best solution. We use our principle matrix to answer these questions and improve upon our techniques in a hard situation. Asking question that make sense is the best way to come to an answer that makes sense for the scenario.

Follow your teacher’s instructions, be respectful, but don’t be afraid to explore and try a new solution that might fit a little better. Every one is different, and that’s why we all must be creative.

WING TSUN

The popularity of martial arts training (Wing Tsun, Wing Chun, Krav Maga, Karate, Kung Fu, or Jiu Jitsu) can be attributed to its appeal to many age groups (children, adults, Male & Female). Because the martial arts in San Antonio has such a diverse following, individual progress and expectation can vary greatly among students. For this reason, especially, it is important to understand your potential and only compare your achievements to your possibilities when doing Wing Tsun (Wing Chun). Expertise in the Wing Tsun Kung Fu comes with years of continuous training; however, you may never be able to execute a slant thrust kick above your head or fall into a full 180-degree split, which is okay. You can still be a successful Wing Tsun martial artist with great physical and mental skills.

A middle-aged man, who is a martial arts student, had only one arm. One could argue that having only one arm was a disadvantage that would severely affect his martial arts abilities. In reality, Frank possessed incredible leg strength and hip control that produced very powerful kicks, which made him a great fighter and martial artist. There are also martial artists who could be described as “Mr. Miyagitypes:” Great fighters with mental focus, quickness and technique. Think of the martial arts as a personal expression of individual strengths, which are different in each participant, that results in self-defense.

What’s your potential? Start with your martial arts assets. Are you strong, flexible, tall or short, quick, accurate or energetic? How’s your balance, concentration and hand eye coordination? These are just a few examples of personal characteristics that may be your strengths, or even your weaknesses. Wing Tsun training certainly will diminish your weaknesses, but the enhancement of your strengths will control the direction of your training and ultimately shape you as a martial artist. Be all you can be through Wing Tsun.

WE'D LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU!
